wow. that was underwhelming.

I was scratching my head all night at the praise for the vocals. Almost every person put through sounded off-key to me. And loud. Finally at the end I did like Chris Rene. I admit I was drawn to his backstory - but I actually liked his original rap. Maybe it just stood out because it wasn't a big over-produced number. There is definitely a lot of value (to me) in those first small a capella audtions used on Idol - that really helps isolate vocal talent, I think.

On the judges. Why did they replace Cheryl Cole with Nicole S? Ugh. Simon and Paula - same old same old: boring. I actually liked L.A. Reid, though. Too bad Idol didn't snag him to replace Randy. At this point - he's the only thing that will get me back for another look.

Except tonight. I'm out and i opted to put two other shows on my DVR. ;)

I knew it would be underwhelming for me, I'm not a fan of the audition process. That got old a few years back on Idol.

I did like a few of them. The 42 year old lady that got the standing ovation. She had some pitch issues but I could only hope to do half as well as she did with how emotional she was to begin with. It's hard to sing when you're crying. I also liked the guy who reminded Simon and L.A. Reid of Bobby Brown and Usher. My two favorites of the night were the vocal group The Anser (really like the voice of the guy in glasses) and also the last audition Chris Rene (thank you Newland for his name!).

There was some sort of scandal with Cheryl Cole early on, but I'm not sure if that's why she isn't with the show anymore.

I won't be watching or recording tonight either. My DVR has too many shows recording tonight so I had to cancel something.

Bleh.

All I could do was shake my head at the copycat production. My husband said it best last night during one of the many times we muted the tv while watching and did other stuff, "It's American Idol on steroids." Yep--and how ridiculous was the fact that instead of Coca Cola sponsorship, there's Pepsi? And Verizon instead of AT&T? Honestly, the bombastic, Star Trek craptastic intro was enough to make my bile rise. WTF? And Paula storming off because of the waggling wang? C'mon, Paula...surely it hasn't been THAT long since you've seen one!

The whole thing looked plastic, over-produced and under-imagined, and plagiaristic. How is any of this "completely different" (Simon's mantra re: comparisons with AI) from AI?

I agree that many of the singers sounded off key last night. Even the emotional delivery of the talented 42-year-old's "Natural Woman" rang my ears the wrong way often. I liked the rapper for the most part, but he still didn't knock my socks off. The Usher/Bobby Brown wannabe was a cutie, but I've seen/heard similar presentations/voices so he didn't seem unique in any way. Honestly, I just didn't see the talent I was expecting.

Maybe I'm just overloaded with all the same ole, same ole with these singing/talent competition shows. Jaded by the info gained over the years about how they 'work' behind the scenes, the ratings games, etc.

ha I liked quite a few contestants.

Liked the sassy adorbs 14 year old black girl who sang Mercy

Liked the cute Bieber Boy who was mobbed by the girlies. What a personality and good voice.

Liked the Usher-Bobby Brown 20 year old

Liked the 42 year old woman who sang Natural Woman

LOVED Chris Rene who sang an original rap song. I do not like rap per say but I really liked that song, the message and that young man.
I hope and pray he stays off the drugs. IMO he could give Eminem a run for money.

Loved the 3 guys who sang Adele's Rollin in the Deep blended in with another song. I would actually convince them to cut one friend, the one with the hat and just be a duet. I thought the beanie hat guy had a GREAT voice. The glasses guy a good voice and was meh on the hat dude.

Agree it is AI on steroids. Seems like they let peeps off the street to watch auditions. Or sell tickets.

Loved LA, Liked the first girl Cheryl way more than the idiot baby voiced Pussycat Doll.

I will not be watching tonight as I have better things to do as watch Project Runway and see Adam
but I liked XFACTOR... It did seem more current in the songs sung.

Really enjoying this first live show.

Astro the little rapper boy blew me away. I am not a fan of rap but even so, this kid is mega talented.

Also making it through were Marcus who was stellar and Chris who was pitchy but he is interesting.

I was sad to see crooner Phillip get cut but his Monkee's Crooning just was cheesy and didn't work for me.

Bands Paula did an exceptionjob with them and I enjoyed all of their performances. Sad to see the Brewer Boys go. I really liked their unique sound.

Next up the over 30's and Girls.

It will be interesting to see which 3 girls Simon keeps.

I liked the Brewer Boys, also, Hathor. I was so afraid that Leroy wouldn't get through over Dexter. Josh was amazing.

Josh is amazing.

Thankfully, Dexter is gone.

Simone needs to GO! She never should have made it IMO in the first place.

Drew is amazing! Something about her voice is so unique and it moves me so.

Her phrasing is so different.

Also love Rachel. Rachel is just so adorable.

Melanie is good but just typical.

Bye to Thia and Simone.

I agree with all the acts that were cut.. but

I have to say that was the most painful 2 1/2 hrs I have ever spent.. and I am actually sorry that I wasted the evening watching it.. *sigh* may not next week.

Feel very bad for a few acts that didn't make it to the live show.. when Dexter made it and Simone and Thia.. did anyone even understand what Simone was singing.. sheeesh

Astro.. I thought he was good ... but I have no clue what he said half the time.. and it sounded like he was running out of breath when the sentences ran on.. *shrug*

Of the night my favorites(if we can call them that) are
Rachel
Intensity
Stero Hogzz
Leroy Bell
and I think I like
Chris Rene(not sure why..maybe his story touched me the most..cause its not because I liked the song he sang tonight)

Drew.. was ok.. but what else will she sing without it always sounding the same.
Melanie..was ok.. already done.
lakota rayn...was ok.. nothing special.. just another girl group
Stacy... nothing special
Josh.. don't like him
Marcus.. ??not sure if that is his name.. got lots of him out there.
Astro.. will prob win.. rapping Biebs... LOL

my pick to win.. would be Rachel, Intensity, or Stero Hogzz.. but what do I know eh..

I really enjoyed the show and felt the two 1/2 hours flew.

Was talking with a friend this am who said imagine if Adam was on X Factor and could have a production with every performance. I said ha we would have had a weekly Glam Nation Extravaganza. She said exactly.

My early pick to win is Drew. Her voice and phrasing are unique.

I thought Simon's production choices for his 'girls' sucked donkey balls. Actually, the whole series of performances seemed grossly over produced. So many flashing lights and loud music and dancers and odd effects everywhere that the actual singer wasn't center stage. Simon's were the worst offenders, imo. And I actually came to believe that he only kept those two girls-Thia? and Simone--so that he and the other judges could make drama over the choices. No way did either of them deserve to be there last night.

I like Drew and hope she gets to do other types of styles and vocal delivery. And although Melanie is nothing wild and crazy different in terms of flash and commercialism, I think her voice is beautiful and she's classy. I've liked Chris but was really underwhelmed last night--both by the song and his performance.

And I just can't get worked up over the groups. TEN people? And the four girls could be any four girls, IMO. I thought the two brothers were cute, but nothing special. I like the Stereo Hoggz--they have a good sound.

Goodbye, Dexter! And thank you, Nicole, for ending his journey at this point. I wish him well, but don't want to watch or listen to him anymore! I like Josh, just keep hoping to see that he's decided to wash his hair and clean up his unkempt, grungy presentation. Yuck--wouldn't buy a burrito from him, that's for sure! heh And, sorry Adam, but I thought Stacy was not so good last night. She is quite the oversinger to my ears, and often her need to scream overtakes her vocal ability to deliver a nice sound doing it.

I get a lot of things done while watching this show! Get emails sent, bills sorted, even some reading done! BWAH! (Not to mention peeks at DWTS and Biggest Loser! *g*)

For what it's worth, here is my two cents :)

Men - I think Philip got shafted. LA wanted nothing to do with a jazz singer with personality and purposely gave him that cheesy song to sing knowing how it would come off. He wants a rapper or R&B guy, and he sure got his way with the 3 that are left. Love him or hate him, that Astro kid has talent. I can see him in the Final. Chris Rene was totally underwhelming and is getting by on his backstory now IMO. Marcus is definitely the best singer of the lot but I'm still sorry they cut the likes of Brennin earlier on.

Over 30's - Bye Dexter. It was interesting but he shouldn't have made it this far. The likes of James Kenney should have made the Top 4 but instead he gets this .....

Quote:
James Kenney
How crazy is it I had tickets but couldn't get into a show I was just kicked off last week. ThankX

My ears are still ringing from Stacey. Please send her home next week. Leroy is a total class act. I don't think he is commericial enough to win this thing but he surely has one of the best voices in the competition. I love Josh not just for his voice, but for his throwing out what he had worked with Nicole on and going his own way on stage. Kudos to him (but I do agree, he needs a stylist badly!). From this group, I'd say Josh in the Final.

I didn't pay much mind to the groups but was sorry to see the Brewer Boys go. They are just adorable and deserved the chance more than the Glee wannabees. There are too many in that group and it's just too much. StereoHogzz are the best of the bunch IMO. The girl group was better than before but seemed so generic.

The women.......Simone, ugh. Rachel has personality oozing out of her but it's sometimes too much. Drew, is awesome. She is going to only improve with age which is a scary thought since she has so much talent already at 14. I just hope they don't try to 'grow her up' too much. Part of her charm, is her innocence. I do think she needs to do something more upbeat though. Thia, double ugh. So glad she is gone. Melanie has an incredible voice but needs to work on her stage presence and sing something other than a diva song. Hopefully she is given that is more fun and upbeat when the voting starts.

Oh, and Steve Jones is BORING!!!!

I'm loving this show! 10 out of the top 17 acts were African American! Chris Rene has a mixed ethnic heritage, correct? InTENsity is also a racially diverse group. That makes it 12 out of 17, which is such a huge change from AI in the past few years. The diversity is refreshing in my book!
I'm so tired of all the white guys on AI. AI has really dropped the ball on finding artists that could fit into pop radio over the past three years.

Can we vote Steve Jones off? He is the worst part of the show!

My favorites are Astro and Marcus in the Boys category. THEY are both current! Chris is also current, but he needs to step it up as far as the vocals go. I'm glad Phillip is gone. He was a cutie, but too much like a typical AI pick.

I like Stereo Hogzz the best in the groups category. That InTENsity group could get a little fanbase going, they have several cute, talented kids. Paula was the best mentor, she knows what she is doing!

Josh is greasy. IDC what he sounds like, he reminds me of the typical white guy on AI. burrito maker=paint salesman lol
I love Leroy, he can stay! :)

Simon has three girls left that will be forces to contend with. Disney TV needs to give Rachel Crow a call. Simon was the worst mentor.

this video has a cute premise and Simone does an OK job of it.. but, I can hear where it is spliced and auto-tuned.. and I didn't get the bathtub writhing while clothed in a bedazzled swimsuit/leotard...what was the point there...

also, didn't like how abruptly it ended.. would have been a lot more interesting/cute if the car pulled up to the light and there was another "cute" boy in the next car.. i.e. to try all over again etc..

like I said .. it was a very cute idea..

I was never a big fan of Dexter from "X Factor" and was glad he was eliminated last Wednesday...but after reading this article, I have more respect for him!

Ex-'X Factor' singer says deal cut for his exit

Seashell I did not watch either as I was out until 11.

I came looking for details as well.

Looks like Dial Idol is set up for X Factor

http://x.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/predictions.asp

It doesn't work very well with texting IMO

http://x.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/P ... s&season=1

Dial Score and raw score very different except for Astro being dead last on both.

Does anyone know how many get the boot tonight?

Found the answer

The two acts with the least amount of your votes then have to perform again for their survival and the judges will have to select which one of the two acts they will save based on their performance of their "survival song."

Hathor... thanks for checking things out... Results must be tonight then?

I have to admit.. other than that young girl Rachel or one of the groups.. (whose names escape me right now.. thats how important I find them..lol) ..I just don't care who wins..

Of all of the contestants I think Rachel could find the most success only because of her potential.. all the kids shows etc.... and hey lets face it.. I think they would rather have a younger contestant.. but, since there has been so much success with SuBo.. I don't think they are going to rule things out with one of the older contestants.. as long as they aren't going to try the "pop" route..

Well I couldn't really find anything out on MJ's.. so I might just look for a few of the performances.. then again.. that might be to much work...;)

Yes results are on tonight 8 EST

It is odd as there are no tubies of last nights performances?

I have searched several times.

Uploads of last night's X Factor must be blocked!

I think that group of four girls should go--I just don't see anything special and they sounded very weak to me last night.

I recognize that kid Astro's appeal and hip-hop talent, but his ego--at such a young age REALLY turns me off. Thought Chris was just okay--he hasn't wowed me since his first audition song, actually. I like Drew--think she has a real future in the music scene. Stacy needs to go (sorry, Adam), as does Intensity (wtf? 10 people?), I like the "old" dude--Leroy, but he needs to emote more and loosen up during performances if he wants to last. I like the Stereo Hoggz, but I agree with my hubby--they need to change their name! ;)

All three girls, all three boys seem to be strongest and the groups are the weakest category, imho.
