WOW

I'm glad Susie Fierce was able to tweet during the concert so that you would get a sense of what was happening. I actually don't know how people multitask in that situation! I really don't. I was mesmerized. Last night I danced like a fool. Tonight I danced, but I kept finding myself frozen, basically staring with my mouth hanging open. My sister and I just kept looking at each other, incredulous.

He was ON FIRE. I mean, like totally, alpha male, fucking on fire. No he didn't make sweet love to us with Whole Lotta Love. He fucked us against the wall.

I don't think I can do a proper report. I make a terrible journalist, and I apologize. I wish you could all have been there. My sister and I had ok seats, but decided to take to the floor after the opening band (Ellias--actually rather good). We started getting really warmed up during the recorded music (great classic rock like Zeppelin and Joan Jett), it was great to be dancing. Then the lights came down and Voodoo came on. That song is amazing, gorgeous coming over the loud speakers. I guess they haven't had enough time to rehearse and get that song down to perform. But I LOVE that song!

Then Adam came out: Fedora, Gridlock coat, majorly Glittery Queen Tshirt, Major eye glitter, silver SYTYCD spats on black patent boots. GORGEOUS, SPARKLY and in CHARGE. FYE with full on lasers. The crowd went nuts. Tommy & Monte were up front with Adam and miked. They sang backup (with Cam too). It was awesome and set the tone for the night.

I loved the staging. Adam interacted a lot more with the band. He went on Cam's keyboard platform at one point. He did major Tommy service, He jammed with Monte.
Adam beamed, his smile was electric. He was chatty between songs. He sang Loaded Smile with soul inflections. I looked to my sister and merely said, "he can sing whatever the fuck he wants HOWEVER he wants". He is a genius. He really is.

I am not going to go over every song. I'm kind of wiped :-) and now I see they're all coming up on Youtube. All I really have to say is that he is as amazing as we all think he is. And more. He is funny, He is passionate, He is sexy, He is dynamic. and OMG he is one hell of a singer. I'll try to do more after I read what's here tomorrow morning to fill in any blanks. WHAT A BLAST!

Adam Lambert could have what it takes to make it
By Tom Harrison, The Province April 10, 2010

There should be a "best-before" stamp on Idol finalists.

They have a year to make it and then they're on their own. The dream is over. The real work begins.

Adam Lambert, who sold out both his casino appearances, Thursday at Red Robinson's and Friday night at the River Rock, appears to have the wherewithal to last longer and will be around for a while. A finalist during American Idol's eighth season, he seems to know what he faces and is poised, no doubt, for what comes after his year of fame.

Lambert has worked on his imagery and has benefited from a willingness to take risks. He's taking advantage of controversy and has balanced that with a background in musical theatre. Thus, he knew before undertaking these first two shows that people already knew a little about him, enough to be ardent fans, and already was aware of showmanship.

What he didn't know was what direction to go in, so Friday was like a test. Lambert was testing the audience while the audience was taking the measure of him. He was finding out what works, finding out more about himself, finding out who the Adam Lambert audience is. Thus, don't be surprised if the next tour has more focus and is less diverse than the show he gave here.

Starting with a pose evidently borrowed from Michael Jackson, Lambert and a four-piece band launched into the title track from his album, For Your Entertainment, and for the next hour tried out-dance rhythms, 70s-influenced rock, big, dramatic balladry a la Judy-Garland-meets-Whitney-Houston and an acoustic interlude. Not everything worked — for instance, he couldn't do much with Tears For Fears' "Mad World" though he tried hard. As Lambert has only one album, he's limited by what he can do but, bless his sparkling Queen T-shirt, the show makes the most of it.

From Vancouver, Elias filled up their half hour with an earnest rock that was more raw than it's smooth-sounding records, which invariably draw Coldplay comparisons. The band has inventive rhythms and the songs have clever parts and maybe Elias should try leaving in the rough edges when next it records.
